  • Australian Shepherd Club of America Member Portal

The Australian Shepherd Club of America is serious about their love for Australian Shepherds. They host dog performance shows in which dogs are awarded points in categories like obedience and agility and earn titles for their achievements. ASCA realized that their passion and programs had outgrown their technology, so together we created a member portal where ASCA members could track their dog's achievements, complete forms online, and even upload a cute profile pic for their beloved canine.

ASCA's site needed a style that was both refined and endearing to reflect their hard-working but fun-loving dogs. We chose copper and red from the signature Aussie coat paired with a serious sans-serif font for the content and a more whimsical serif font for the titles to strike the perfect balance. Lots of white space and a timelessly clean look ensured that the site will look fresh and inviting for the long haul. • The Poultry Exchange

The Poultry Exchange has a game-changing idea for the poultry industry: an online spot market connecting wholesale buyers and sellers. When it comes to wholesale chicken, the saying is "sell it or smell it" - suppliers have a limited window in which to sell their product, and buyers need to locate and receive their chicken in a timely manner. Traditionally this means that everyone spends hours on the phone making calls when they have chicken to buy or sell on the spot market. With The Poultry Exchange's online platform, sellers have only to list their product and wait for an acceptable bid, and buyers can browse listings and make bids on exactly the right product for their needs.

The Poultry Exchange had some mockups for their platform that they felt were close but not quite what they wanted. Their key concerns were that the user's interaction with the site be smooth and intuitive, and that the style be soothing but timeless. After discussing the user's goals and the actions available to them, we streamlined the user experience and traded out some harsh primary colors for smooth greys and browns with some bright accents to call attention to key areas of the page. The finishing touch was a mobile layout for pages that would be cumbersome to view on a mobile device.

  • Barracks Townhomes Resident Application Site

The Barracks Townhomes in College Station, Texas don't do boring. They've got a wakeboard park and a swim-up bar to prove it. To make sure that their prospective resident application was as exciting as the rest of the place, we designed a game-like application process in which applicants race against their future roommates to see who can get their application completed, forms signed, and deposit paid first! Applicants can fill out and sign all their forms online from their smartphone, and they get texts when each section of the application is approved.

In keeping with the edgy and playful feel of the complex, we created fun cartoon mascots to represent each applicant and used playful fonts and colors to guide the user through the application. Giant buttons and form elements ensure that forms are easily filled out entirely from an applicant's smartphone, which is every college student's dream, of course. As a companion to the super cool prospective resident application process, The Barracks Townhomes needed a website in which their community specialists could view and manage their available units and keep tabs on all the behind-the-scenes aspects of managing a large complex. The management portal gives visual rollups of crucial information, then allows the community specialist to easily locate the unit, resident, or feature they need to interact with.

A clean but fun style keeps this site in step with the rest of the Barracks' atmosphere without making the pages cumbersome or hoaky. The team had basic wireframes for the flow of the site but needed a style suitable for their iconic purple teacher, Ms. Smarts. • Wildwood Christmas Tree Farm Wordpress Theme

Wildwood Christmas Tree Farm is a family-run Nashville, TN tree farm where families can select and cut their very own holiday pine or spruce. Dawn and David were up to their elbows in pine branches and excited families, so they decided it was time to up their website game to include a pre-booking and payment tool, as well as a modern look. They wanted a homey, rustic feel to their site and information arranged so that visitors could easily find answers to their most common questions.

Since Dawn would be changing the content of their site often and managing guests’ bookings, we decided that Wordpress was the tool for the job, as it would allow her to update her content as their farm’s capabilities expand. We designed a Wordpress theme from scratch that incorporated friendly block fonts, lots of photos, and a wood texture that kept the clean look grounded in the rustic reality of the farm. We made the theme mobile-first since we assumed most users would access the site from their phones or look up directions on the way. See the site in action, and book an ornament painting workshop at wildwoodchristmastreefarm.com.

  • YourVote App

In the era of polarized politics and mean-spirited Facebook rants, YourVote aims to give voters a timely, relevant, private way to share their opinions with their elected officials so that their voice is truly heard in the American political system. Users receive periodic polls from their elected offiicials so that they can express their opinions on issues that elected officials are making decisions about right now.

As we planned out the YourVote app, we kept in mind that in order to gain and keep users, the app needed to be fast, easy, and fun to use. It needed to be quicker and more satisfying to answer a poll question than to check email or Facebook. Additionally, the app needs a non-trivial amount of personal information to correctly match the user to their elected official, so we had to figure out how to make it clear to users how their info would and would not be used, and make the registration process smooth and painless. We topped off our strategy with a personable, friendly aesthetic that felt trustworthy and patriotic without being partisan. To get the app, search YourVote in the app store, or check out their website at www.yourvote.com.

  • YourVote Admin Portal

The engine behind the YourVote App is the Admin Portal, which allows elected official to enter and edit poll questions and set the open and close times for the poll. The admin portal also allows the elected official to review the poll results in a way the provides meaningful information on which to base their decisions without compromising app users’ privacy.

The challenge with the admin portal was to make poll creation and scheduling simple and intuitive but still flexible enough that elected officials could ask different types of questions and add custom answer options if needed. We also wanted to provide elected officials with clean, modern built-in formatting so that the text of a question didn’t require any formatting except that which conveyed meaning such as bolds or italics. Lastly, we translated the app’s bold blue theme into a web theme that complemented the app but felt at home on a bigger screen. You won't see the admin portal unless you're a registered user, but you can still check out YourVote's vision at www.yourvote.com.
